Roger Hodgson delivers memorable performance in Costa Mesa

August 12, 2013
Roger Hodgson, former lead singer and co-founder of the rock band Supertramp, gave a memorable performance on Sunday, August 11 to a packed crowd of concert goers at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa.

His performance brought a bit of nostalgia to fans as they sang along to memorable hit songs such as 'Breakfast in America' and 'Dreamer'.

Accompanied by band members: Kevin Adamson on keyboards, David J. Carpenter on bass guitar, Bryan Head on drums and Aaron MacDonald on Saxophones, Harmonica, Keyboards and flute — the concert opened with the song 'Long Way Home' followed by 'School' and other well-known hits such as 'Dreamer', 'Logical Song', 'Sister Moonshine', 'Give a Little Bit', 'Breakfast in America', 'Dreamer', 'Take the Long Way Home' ending with 'It's Raining Again' as the finale with the crowd singing and dancing along.

During his concert Hodgson also included newer songs and songs from his solo album such as 'Lovers in the Wind', 'Death and a Zoo', 'Love is a Thousand Times' and 'Along Came Mary'.
Surprisingly Roger's singing voice is in great shape, remaining the same over the years that delivered a brilliant live performance that just seems to get better.

You don't have to be a baby boomer. Roger's concerts have fans from 4 generations, it's totally amazing, like the Beatles Roger's Music has stood the test of time.

Wow amazing article and performance. I love all the Supertramp hits Roger has written and performs but I'm really glad to hear more from his solo albums too. He has more material then anyone could do in a few hours. Thanks for this article and Thanks Roger for so many fantastic performances.

Do you hear that whisper on the wind....... At first it's barely audible, like the chimes you hear in the distance.... but then it becomes louder, more familiar and suddenly your heart jumps for it recognizes the notes it's feeling... The whisper of Roger's music through your soul.
Once again, the performance at Costa Mesa brings you back to the beginning, reminds you of the important things in life. Friends, family, loving those who are quickly becoming your family all with Roger's music as the soundtrack. Go, travel to experience this feeling for yourself.
Thank you Roger for sharing your gifts with us..... Much, much love to you all. Lisa Doxrude

Fantastic concert last night from Roger Hodgson and his band! Too bad it didn't go on for hours more! I can't wait for his return. I bought my ticket the day they went on sale and have been waiting patiently. Needless to say, the wait was more than worth it! What a voice Roger has! He sounds even better today than on my Supertramp vinyls. Each member of his band is multi-talented and a fine group of musicians they are! I think the highlight of the show for me was just looking out at the audience and seeing people of all ages and all backgrounds coming together as one and singing along word for word, loving every minute of the show. Roger is the best of the best. Any Supertramp fan needs to see Roger's show and see the voice and sprit of the band. I saw several upcoming US tour dates listed on Events at https://www.Facebook.com/Roger.... Give yourself a gift and GO!

ROGER HODGSON SINGER-SONGWRITER FORMERLY OF SUPERTRAMP RETURNS TO THE U.S.
    WITH BREAKFAST IN AMERICA TOUR
Legendary singer and composer brings shows stateside beginning August 11
in Costa Mesa, California, and gets set to launch
    Classics Live 2 CD.

LOS ANGELES, CA, July 30, 2013—Following on the heels of sellout shows in Australia, the U.K., and Europe, Roger Hodgson formerly of Supertramp will return to the U.S. with his Breakfast in America Tour. A series of select dates start August 11 at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, California, and will include at least eight other stops on both coasts.

Concurrent with the tour, Hodgson has announced the forthcoming release of a new CD, Classics Live 2. The disc joins Classics Live 1 in the Hodgson catalog, which is available through his Store and iTunes.
Critically hailed as one of the most gifted composers and lyricists of our time, ironically many in the U.S. may not know the name Roger Hodgson, but would instantly recognize his voice and the classic Supertramp hits he wrote and sang: “Give a Little Bit,” Take the Long Way Home,” Dreamer,”The Logical Song,”It’s Raining Again,” and “Breakfast in America.”

Hodgson helped propel Supertramp to international superstardom in the 70’s with album sales of well over 60 million, including 1979’s stellar blockbuster, Breakfast in America, which alone sold upwards of 20 million copies. Timeless in nature, his songs have played on the radio continuously for more than thirty-five years. Now, in concert, Hodgson reignites memories and emotions with a heart-stirring voice that both critics and fans declare is sounding better than ever.
Uniting generations, Hodgson transports baby boomers back to their youth while giving younger concertgoers a taste of why his classic songs have endured. With his repertoire also including fan favorites such as “Child of Vision,”  “Fool’s Overture,” “Hide in Your Shell,” “Even in the Quietest Moments,” and “School,” audiences are once again experiencing the magic and spirit that Hodgson created with Supertramp. Accompanied by a four-piece band, Hodgson also performs favorites from his solo albums such as “Only Because of You,” “Lovers in the Wind,” and “In Jeopardy.”

“The power of the music was indisputable with many of the audience in tears of joy at the memories and emotions the songs evoked.  It was like seeing Supertramp back in their heyday.”  Evening Herald

“Frequently entertaining the audience with stories about the origins of his songs, Hodgson connects deeply with the fans in a way few stars of his stature do.”  San Diego Reader

“Remarkably, the humble musical legend is back and his signature voice sounds stronger than ever… to see and hear Roger Hodgson in concert today is simply to experience a sort of musical homecoming.” Rolling Stone
"This is the real deal: a legendary music man, in brilliant form and shimmering presence, supported by a tight, terrific band. When you can catch a show, go. An evening with Roger Hodgson will raise your standards of concert-going."  Huffington Post
